Officials of Finoteselam say evictees have been sheltered

April 3, 2013
Food Sufficiency and Security Section Heads of the Finote Selam Town, Western Gojjam Zone said the thousands people of the Amhara ethnic origin, who have been forcefully evicted from the Benishangul Region of Ethiopia, have been provided with shelter, food, and medical services in their Town.
One of the officials, Gezachew Belay said to ESAT that the deportees are now settled in premises previously used for Cobblestone production in the Town.
“The deportees will remain in the premises until the discussion between the two Regional States is completed and the people are returned back” Gezachew said. However, he also said that he cannot be sure if the deportees will return back to Benishangul Region as it all depends on the outcomes of the discussions between the two Regional States.
ESAT has also learnt that the deportees are receiving protection by the Federal Police. Ashebir, Head of the FinoteSelam Town Security Section, said that there has been no security problem since the evictees reached in the Town.
It is to be recalled that ESAT had reported that the evictees had said they were left unsheltered last week.
